Family & Juvenile Court

The Family Court has exclusive, original jurisdiction in all matters involving marriage, child custody, adult abuse and neglect, and all related matters. In Jackson County, these matters are heard in one of the three locations depending whether the case falls into the Juvenile Justice or Marriage and Family category. Cases involving juvenile delinquency, juvenile status offense, allegations of child abuse or neglect, adoptions, and some order of protection cases are heard at the Family Justice Center at 625 East 26th Street in Kansas City. Please select the appropriate link on the right for more information.
All actions involving dissolution of marriage (divorce), separation, separate maintenance, child custody and modifications, child support, adult abuse and child protection matters are heard by various judicial officers at either courthouse at 415 East 12th Street in Kansas City or at the Independence Courthouse Annex at 308 West Kansas in Independence.
