Criminal Records

The Department of Criminal Records is responsible for maintaining case file records in criminal and traffic matters before the 16th Judicial Circuit Court. These records consist of documentation of traffic violations and of misdemeanor and felony charges against individuals.

The Department maintains two (2) office locations: The Albert Riederer Community Justice Complex at 1315 Locust, Kansas City, MO, and in the Independence Courthouse at 308 W Kansas, Suite 127, Independence, MO. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Criminal History Searches/Background Checks:

Any requests for criminal history searches or background checks must be directed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Department of Criminal Records does not provide general information regarding criminal history, case status, nor do we perform background checks on individuals. The Missouri State Highway Patrol maintains the central repository for the State and collects information from all law enforcement agencies, prosecutorial agencies and courts statewide. General criminal information may also be available on Case.net.

Please Note: If your case does not appear on Case.Net, it may be a sealed case. In order to obtain information on a sealed case, you must be a party to the case and show your photo ID in person.
