The Honorable Abbie Rothermich

16th Circuit Court

            Judge Abbie Rothermich was appointed to the bench by Governor Michael Parson on December 22, 2024.

            At the time of her appointment, Judge Rothermich was serving in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office as its Deputy Chief of the Employment Litigation Division.  During her seven-year tenure as an Assistant Attorney General, she handled civil litigation cases out of its Kansas City office.  Judge Rothermich supervised attorneys and paralegals statewide and handled fifteen jury trials.  In 2022, Judge Rothermich won the “Excellence in Administration and Management” award, in recognition of her outstanding service to the citizens of Missouri while at the Attorney General’s Office. 

            Prior to joining the AG’s office, Judge Rothermich worked as an attorney with Legal Aid of Western Missouri for six years in its Warrensburg office.  She assisted clients in 13 west-central Missouri counties with orders of protection, landlord-tenant cases, family law cases that involved allegations of abuse, and guardianships. 

            Judge Rothermich earned her undergraduate degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, graduating with General Honors and majoring in Classics and in English, Magna Cum Laude.  Judge Rothermich was a Pershing Scholar at Truman State University.  She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2010 where she was a member of the Missouri Environmental Law & Policy Review and a participant in the Family Violence Clinic.

            Judge Rothermich grew up in rural Northeast Missouri.  She enjoys spending time volunteering with community organizations and has previously served on the Board of the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri and the Plaza Rotary Club in Kansas City.  She is a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Missouri Bar Association.
