Scott R. Manuel was appointed as Probate Commissioner by the Court on September 19, 2014 following his appointment as Deputy Probate Commissioner on January 3, 2014.    At the time of his initial appointment, Commissioner Manuel was a shareholder with the law firm of Humphrey, Farrington and McClain, P.C. in Independence, Missouri, where he practiced law for 24 years.  His practice was primarily in the areas of estate planning, probate, trusts and guardianship law.  For 14 of those years, he served as court appointed respondent’s counsel on adult guardianships.  He also has a background in civil litigation.

Commissioner Manuel grew up in California and practiced law there for six years before moving to Missouri.   He is a 1984 graduate of Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California.  In 1981, he obtained bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Economics from Graceland University in Iowa.
