Camera in the Courtroom rules
A camera in the courtroom rule has been in affect in Missouri since 1995. The news media may make a request to have a camera in the courtroom as provided by the Missouri Supreme Court Operating Rule 16.
In addition, the Jackson County Circuit Court has a local rule as to where photographers may videotape at the court's various locations. The Local Circuit Court Rule 9.9 and Supreme Court Operating Rule 16 can be found here.
If your news organization would like to make a request to have a camera in the courtroom, please e-mail the Public Information Officer, Valerie Hartman, at email@example.com at least five days before the requested hearing or trial.
The use of electronic devices in the courtroom - including camera phones - to take photos, record video or audio is strictly prohibited.
