POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

To maintain security of a juvenile detention facility by visual observation and physical control of entrances and exits in order to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff and to enter and retrieve computer data

MAJOR TASK STATEMENTS AND REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES (Percentage of Time): (The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job; other tasks/duties may be assigned. Management reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities, work shift/schedule, facility, or department to meet business and organizational needs as necessary, including but not limited to the re-assignment of employees and positions, elimination of positions, and opening, moving, or closing of facilities and units.)

50% Maintain security in detention by controlling access to doors, monitoring camera and intercom system, screening visitors and security property.

30% Perform associated duties in providing for the safety and security of staff and juvenile residents. 20% Enter data into computer databases; perform inquiries in law enforcement database. SUPERVISION OF: None

SUPERVISION BY (Include level of Supervision): Direct supervision provided by Facility Supervisor (Control Room. Supervision and direction may be provided by other Facility Supervisors, Program Manager, and/or Facility Supervisor.

Work is reviewed through discussions and on the basis of the quality and quantity of work completed.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY: PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, MATERIALS USED: Computer, keyboard, telephone, copier/printer/scanner/fax, intercom system and mobile radios; standard office equipment, physical restraint devices (handcuffs and shackles), keys, various reports and forms, computer generated or handwritten, program manuals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: One year experience in law enforcement, corrections or security related field. Some work experience involving personal computer and keyboard operation.
