POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

To maintain security of a juvenile detention facility by visual observation and physical control of entrances and exits in order to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff and to enter and retrieve computer data

Maintain security in detention by controlling access to doors, monitoring camera and intercom system, screening visitors and security property.

Perform associated duties in providing for the safety and security of staff and juvenile residents Enter data into computer databases; perform inquiries in law enforcement database

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

(Education above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required general experience; experience above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.)

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: One year experience in law enforcement, corrections or security related field. Some work experience involving personal computer and keyboard operation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to function at an acceptable level in the position. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment and facilities required to work in as well as physical demands and/or mental requirements. (This is not an inclusive list; other tasks/duties may be assigned.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed within a secured correctional environment. Significant time involved in computer operation. Subject to high levels of noise. Interpersonal contact with youth and parents/guardians who may be hostile. Job requires frequent walking and standing involved in facility inspections. Some bending and crawling required; work mandatory overtime as required.
