POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

POSITION PURPOSE: To maintain security of a juvenile detention facility by visual observation and physical control of entrances and exits in order to ensure the safety and security of residents and staff and to enter and retrieve computer data.

Management reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities, work shift/schedule, facility, or department to meet business and organizational needs as necessary, including but not limited to the re-assignment of employees and positions, elimination of positions, and opening, moving, or closing of facilities and units.)

50% Maintain security in detention by controlling access to doors, monitoring camera and intercom system, screening visitors and securing property.


20% Enter data into computer databases; perform inquiries in law enforcement database 30% Perform associated duties in providing for the safety and security of staff and juvenile residents.

Service Level:
Internal: Provides for access to detention facility; performs inquiries in law enforcement system to check criminal backgrounds of juveniles, foster parents and volunteers.
External: Provides for visitation and consultation with juveniles by parents/guardians, attorneys and children’s division staff.; provides information to law enforcement.
INTERNAL: All levels of internal staff
EXTERNAL: Juveniles; parents or guardians of juveniles; Attorneys representing juveniles; Children’s Division staff; law enforcement

PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS USED: Computer, telephone, copier/printer/scanner/fax, calculator, standard office machines, various reports/forms, computer generated or handwritten

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: High School graduate or recognized equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year work experience. Preference in law enforcement, corrections or security related field. Some work experience involving personal computer and keyboard operation.

ACCOUNTABILITY/RESPONSIBILITY: Ensure the accuracy of data entered and retrieved from database; responsible for following established operational procedures to ensure the utmost safety and security of juvenile residents and staff.

JOB ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed within a secured correctional environment. Significant time involved in computer operation. Subject to high levels of noise. Interpersonal contact with youth and parents/guardians who may be hostile. Job requires frequent walking and standing involved in facility inspections. Some bending and crawling required.
