POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Functions as the qualified mental health professional for the facility, by providing assessment, crisis intervention, and psychological treatment services for youth and families, and coordinates those services with a multi-disciplinary treatment team.

MAJOR TASK STATEMENTS & REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES (Percentage of Time):

50% Provide guidance to help students achieve academic success, to include assessment of skills, interests, and identification of barriers to success.

30% Serve as the liaison and advocate between the Court, local school districts, community groups and resources.
20% Performs individual and group counseling and guidance functions to identify issues affecting school performance (social-emotional, behavioral, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing student success. SUPERVISION OF: None.
SUPERVISION BY (Include level of Supervision): Director of Field Services, Unit Manager.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY:
INTERNAL: Facility staff, facility management, and Court psychologist. Provides assessments for youth and families.
EXTERNAL: Counseling groups, youth ant their family, various outside agencies. Provides services to youth and families.

PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS USED: Computer, keyboard, printer, telephone, dictation recorder, various psychological tests and equipment, case files and court orders, and various reference sources for psychological/counseling data.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: : M.A. in field is required, A M.A. in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related field preferred..
EXPERIENCE: Three years counseling experience preferred, helping youth develop career/life goals; support academic achievement; provide individual and group counseling to youth; providing support during a crisis; work with community agencies; and partnering with parents, teachers, support staff and the community.
