GENERAL DUTIES AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

This is advanced clerical work in a court within the Missouri State Court System and involves responsibility for a specific area of court case processing or for performing a variety of technical clerical functions which requires the application of independent judgment and the interpretation of statutes, policies and regulations. Employees are full functioning court clerks and most work is performed with a minimum of checking or other supervision. Work may involve lead worker duties over lower level clerical employees. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through observation of operations, and advice and assistance are available when unusual or difficult matters arise. Perform technical court clerical work in the filing, processing, and disposition of court cases. Reviews legal documents for completeness, adequacy and accuracy; determines processing required and takes necessary action in accordance with court rules or refers difficult matters to supervisors. Determines proper routing of complaints, petitions, application for letters and other filing's; notifies parties. Receives/records all fees and other receipts; makes necessary disbursements and prepares required statements/reports. Assure completeness and accuracy of records leaving the court's jurisdiction pursuant to change of venue, outgoing reciprocals, appeal or certification. Prepares and types summons and reviews same for accuracy. Answers inquiries and furnishes information by reviewing court records. Performs related work as required.; SPECIFIC WORK EXAMPLES: Front counter assistance, cash handling, assess fines and/or costs, receipt payments, post bonds, initiate new cases, audit cases, digital imaging, perform special projects, and related work as required. Provide back up within department as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Typing 35 wpm or considerable keyboard/data entry ability. Graduation from high school; two years general clerical experience; accounting experience preferred. (Education above the minimum may be substituted on a year for year basis for required general experience; experience above the minimum may be substituted on a year for year basis for required education.) Knowledge of court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the court. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to make work decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and prepare reports from such records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
