• To provide for and ensure general health care, medical services and treatment for resident youth.
• Conduct general medical assessments of youth which involves taking vital signs, administering screenings, administering and interpreting tests (such as urinalysis and TB) and developing health history;
• assess specific medical illness, complaint, injury or need of youth to determine condition, which may involve examinations; administer medication and/or care and treatment in accordance with approved nursing techniques and which may involve referral to physician, hospital, or clinic;
• maintain all documentation associated with medication administration;
• schedule medical appointments and clinics, and assist physician during treatment or examination;
• confer with physicians, hospital staff, and other health professionals regarding youth’s health and coordinate all aspects of health care needs;
• order medications from pharmacies, per physician’s orders;
• prepare and maintain health histories and all related medical records;
• educate and counsel with youth regarding preventive health habits and proper hygiene;
• order and monitor medical supplies, equipment and medication;
• travel to hospital or clinics for test results, prescriptions, and other matters;
• may package and dispense prescription medication;
• discuss health care needs or medical condition of youth with parents, guardians, Case Management Officers to ensure proper follow-up care and medical concerns/interventions;
• keep abreast of public health requirements and current medical trends and developments;
• and perform related work.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of a two year degree from a state board approved school necessary to obtain license as stated under Special Requirements.
• Two years experience in the capacity of a Registered Professional Nurse in a clinical setting, such as assisting a physician.
• Knowledge of modern principles, practices, methods and techniques of the nursing profession;
• ability to make appropriate medical assessments of adolescent youth;
• ability to relate to and counsel youth with behavioral problems;
• ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
• ability to read handwritten or small printed words;
• ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
• ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
• ability to relate in a positive fashion to individuals from a variety of cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess and maintain valid license as a Registered Professional Nurse as certified by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
  • Must have ability to attain valid certification to instruct in first aid/CPR procedures and Medication Certification.
  • Must be able to provide proof of licensing.
  • Must submit to and pass criminal background check as prescribed by Courts, Sex Offender Registry check, and MO and KS Child Abuse and Neglect checks.
