POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:

POSITION PURPOSE: To provide for and ensure general health care, medical services, and treatment for resident youth.

MAJOR TASK STATEMENTS & REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES (Percentage of Time): (The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the job; other tasks may be assigned. The area to which the job is assigned will govern which duties apply. Management reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities, work shift/schedule, facility, or department to meet business and organizational needs as necessary, including, but not limited to the re-assignment of employees and positions, elimination of positions, and opening, moving, or closing of facilities and units.)

40% Review, prepare, and compose documents and information relating to shift operation.


20% Oversee the operation of a treatment or detention facility shift.
20% Perform duties of Youth Worker.
20% Coordinate activities for juveniles.
SUPERVISION OF: Acts as a lead worker to Youth Worker staff in assignment, checking, organizing, and coordinating of work.
SUPERVISION BY (Include level of Supervision): Direct supervision by Facility Supervisor.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY:
INTERNAL: Program and Management staff, Maintenance, Food Service, and other Support Services, Control Room, Members of senior management, facility security issues, logistical information.
EXTERNAL: Youth and family members, Contract Service Providers (i.e. teachers, therapists, counselors, behavioral health workers).

PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS USED: Telephone, keys, alarm systems, mechanical restraints, hand-held radios, computer, database & software applications, various reports/forms, both handwritten, and computer generated.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Two years’ work experience with troubled youth.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: (This job description does not include specific physical requirements necessary to perform the job, such as, carrying, standing and lifting. Such requirements vary from position to position and may be determined by the appointing authority) Due to the Court's obligation to provide supervision for youth within its facilities seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days in a year, and to assure an appropriate staff-to-youth ratio, Shift Leader positions are considered by nature shift work and work hours and days off will be assigned by the hiring manager. The ability to work different shifts and different days, as well as mandatory overtime is considered an essential job function and fundamental to the work of a Shift Leader. Work days and hours and location assignments are neither permanent nor guaranteed. Employees may be reassigned to a different shift, work day schedule, facility, department or job in the interest of safety and security of the youth and staff within a facility or to better meet the needs of the department or organization as a whole. Management may make changes to the organizational structure as needed, including but not limited to the re-assignment of employees and positions, elimination of positions and opening, moving or closing facilities and units.
