• To provide counseling and other psychological services to youth to assist in achieving more effective personal, social, emotional, and educational development and adjustment.
• Conduct clinical interviews with youth and study case history; select and administer some psychological testing, personality inventories, educational evaluations, intelligence, achievement, interest, and other psychometric tests and interpret results.
• Serve on multi-disciplinary team to identify mental and emotional disorders of youth and make recommendations regarding treatment, supervision and rehabilitation.
• Interview, test, or evaluate youth in Court facility, hospital or other location, as necessary.
• Observe youth during leisure, school, work, or other activities or situations formulate treatment plans and treat psychological disorders to effect improved adjustment, utilizing various psychological techniques; involve youths’ family, peers, school personnel or significant others.
• Recommend commitment of youth to an agency, program, or special setting designed to meet the needs of youth.
• Conduct counseling or therapeutic interviews with youth and parents, on an individual and group basis, to assist in gaining insight into personal problems, define goals and plan action, reflecting interests, abilities and needs.
• Testify in Court as to data derived from evaluations in support of the recommendations made concerning youth
• Collaborate with mental and medical health professionals, public and private service agencies and Deputy Juvenile Officers to plan, implement or recommend treatment or rehabilitation of a youth or group.
• Serve as a point of contact to various agencies regarding individual cases or in evaluation, planning and development of mental health programs or services.
• Assist management in program development for at-risk youth; assess the effectiveness of treatment techniques which enhance, improve or justify eliminating current treatment modalities.
• Design, develop and conduct training for staff regarding various aspects of adolescent counseling and psychology, suicide prevention, mental illness and related topics.
• Perform public speaking regarding Court psychological services and related topics; maintain a current knowledge of modern principles, practices, methods and techniques in the psychology field and legislation and laws concerning certification and mental competency; and perform related work.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• M.A. in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work.
• Three years directly related counseling experience, working with at risk families and Youth.
• The following minimum requirements can also be achieved through any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of various counseling and treatment modalities.
  • Thorough knowledge of psychometrics.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern principles, practices, methods and techniques of counseling and adolescent psychology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to apply legal principles and specialized knowledge to individual cases and problems.
  • Ability to analyze, appraise, and organize facts concerned in cases and to prepare written recommendations or opinions.
  • Ability to make work decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and Court policies and procedures.
  • Ability to relate in a positive fashion to individuals from a variety of cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to speak publicly in an effective manner.
  • ability to operate computer and printer.
  • Certification as a Licensed Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker is a plus.
  • If Licensed must have license issued by the Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
  • Must be able to provide proof of license.
