Biography

Judge Lauren D. Barrett was appointed as Associate Circuit Judge of Division 30 by Governor Michael Parson on July 7, 2023.

At the time of her appointment, Judge Barrett was serving as Chief Trial Assistant in the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office where she supervised 18 attorneys.  She joined the office in 2014 as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Special Victims’ Unit.  She was promoted to Trial Team Leader—Special Victims’ Unit in 2015, and Chief Trial Assistant—General Crimes/Warrant Desk Unit in 2019.  During her tenure, she was awarded by the office with the Louis Lombardo Award for the “Most Valuable Attorney of the Year” in 2018. 

Prior to that, she worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Public Safety Division of the Missouri Attorney General’s Office in Jefferson City from 2009 until 2014.  During her tenure, she received the Attorney General’s Office “Excellence in Litigation Award.”  The award is given by the office’s leadership to one civil attorney/trial team and one criminal attorney/trial team.  She received the award in 2011 in 2014.

Judge Barrett earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Cum Laude, and a General Honors Certificate from the University of Missouri—Columbia in 2006.  She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Missouri—Columbia Law School in 2009.  She was a National Moot Court team member. 

She serves on the board of the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired.
