Biography

Associate Circuit Judge Margaret L. Sauer was appointed by Governor Mel Carnahan in May 2000. Judge Sauer served 15 years in the Circuit Court’s Probate Division as Deputy Commissioner from 1991 – 2000 and Legal Counsel from 1985-1991. Previously she was Legal Counsel for the Jackson County Public Administrator. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1983.

Judge Sauer has served as President of the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, on the Board of the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Judges, as Chair of the Circuit Court’s Associate Circuit Committee for seven years, and is on the Executive Council of the Missouri Judicial Conference. Judge Sauer received the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Foundation Public Service Award in 1994 and the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City Judicial Recognition Award in 2000. Prior to law school, Judge Sauer taught for several years in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She earned a Master of Science degree in Special Education from the University of Kansas.
