About Family Court

The Jackson County Family Court consists of the:

  • Family Court Division
    The 16th Judicial Circuit, Family Court Division exercises jurisdiction over families as defined by Missouri statutes. This includes divorces, child custody, child support, and cases that involve juvenile dependency and law violations.
     
  • Juvenile Officer
    The Juvenile Officer is considered the prosecuting attorney in all actions filed pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 211.
     
  • Family Court Services
    Family Court Services supports the Family Court in providing interventions for youth and families to ensure accountability, skill development, and protection of the community.
     
  • Office of the Guardian ad Litem

    The Office of the Guardian ad Litem (OGAL) is appointed as the guardian ad
    litem for many of the children involved in the abuse and neglect cases filed by the
    Juvenile Officer.
