  • In FY 2007, Jackson County Circuit Court processed 76,068 case filings and disposed 75,660 cases.
  • The population distribution in Jackson county has dramatically changed in the past 20 years. Eastern Jackson County has grown from having 40% of the county’s population to having 60%.
  • The county population shift has resulted in a significant increase in the number of cases that go through the Independence Courthouse. For example, for the calendar years from 2000- 2007 in Independence: circuit civil filings have risen 7%, associate circuit filings have risen 23% and domestic violence filings have risen 26%.
  • But the increases in case volume are not limited to Independence, because in the entire circuit, from the fiscal years 2000- 2007, the circuit civil caseloads rose 10%, associate circuit civil caseloads increased 33% and circuit felony caseloads rose 15%.
  • Jackson County judges handled an average of 3, 257 case filings per judge in 2007 significantly more than either St. Louis City and St. Louis County. Jackson County has 28 Circuit Court Judges, 3 fewer than St. Louis City, while Jackson County has 91% more population than St. Louis City.
